Take Five: Top 5 Waves Around The World According To Former World Surf Champion, Pauline Menczer
Pumping swells and Pauline Menczer go hand in hand. We were lucky enough to chat with the fierce world surfing champion and naturally, we had to find out her all-time favourite surf spots across the world. Check out Pauline Menczer's top beaches below.
Having been on the world tour from 1989 - 2005, I've been lucky enough to surf some of the best waves in the world, so it only seemed fair to share these top spots with you! Many are featured in the inspiring true story, Girls Can't Surf too - in cinemas now. Off tour, I live in Brunswick Heads in Northern NSW and still surf whenever I can.
Winkipop - near Bells Beach, VIC
A long rippable right-hander where you can get 10, leg-burning, major manoeuvres on one wave. There are also some fun locals who let me camp in their gardens.
Bells Beach, VIC
I won three Bells here and the cliff creates the perfect natural stage to show off in front of spectators. Beautiful place and people.
J Bay, South Africa
Uncrowded, pristine long rippable open face wave with barrel sections and there's incredible safari adventures and fishing on the crappy wave days.
Sunset Beach, Hawaii
The thrill and massive adrenalin rush of a big challenging take off. It's also my special place as it's where I won my '93 World Title in big wind-blown waves.
Margaret River, WA
I surfed some of the biggest and heaviest waves of my life here including the worst wipeouts too! Getting sloshed and treading grapes at the world's best winery's on days off is an added bonus.
Catch Pauline Menczer alongside the likes of Lisa Andersen, Layne Beachley, Wendy Botha and Pam Burridge in Christopher Nelius' latest documentary 'Girls Can't Surf', out in cinemas in Australia and New Zealand NOW. Find out more information and showing times HERE.
